Question 1

How often should AC be serviced in Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

In Cyprus's dusty climate with heavy summer use, we recommend servicing your air conditioning at least once a year—ideally in spring before the hot season begins. For systems running year-round or in high-demand commercial settings, bi-annual servicing (spring and autumn) is advisable. Regular servicing maintains efficiency, improves air quality, and prevents costly breakdowns during peak season.

Question 2

What's included in an AC service?

Accepted Answer

A comprehensive service includes: cleaning or replacing filters, deep cleaning the indoor unit (evaporator coil, fan barrel, housing), cleaning the outdoor unit condenser coils, checking and clearing drainage lines, inspecting electrical connections, testing refrigerant levels, checking thermostat and controls, and testing overall system performance. You receive a service report with any recommendations.

Question 3

Can I clean my AC myself?

Accepted Answer

You can and should clean or replace your air filters regularly—every 2-4 weeks during heavy use. This simple maintenance improves efficiency and air quality. However, deeper cleaning of internal components, refrigerant checks, and electrical inspections should be done by qualified technicians with proper equipment and training.

Question 4

Why does my AC smell bad?

Accepted Answer

Unpleasant odours usually indicate mould, bacteria, or mildew growth inside the unit—common in humid conditions. This happens when moisture doesn't drain properly or when internal components aren't cleaned regularly. A professional deep clean typically resolves the issue. Persistent odours may indicate a drainage problem that needs addressing.

Question 5

Why is my air conditioner not cooling?

Accepted Answer

Several issues can cause poor cooling: dirty filters restricting airflow (most common and easiest to fix), low refrigerant levels due to a leak, dirty evaporator or condenser coils, a faulty compressor, thermostat issues, or an undersized unit for your space. Sometimes the outdoor unit is blocked by debris. We recommend professional diagnosis to identify the exact cause and most cost-effective solution.

Question 6

Why is my AC leaking water?

Accepted Answer

Water dripping from your indoor unit usually indicates a blocked drain line—the most common cause. Algae, dust, and debris can clog the drain, causing water to back up. A frozen evaporator coil (from low refrigerant or restricted airflow) can also cause leaking when it thaws. The fix is usually straightforward: clearing the drain or addressing the underlying issue.

Question 7

Why does my AC keep turning on and off?

Accepted Answer

This 'short cycling' can be caused by: an oversized unit cooling the space too quickly, dirty filters or coils causing overheating, low refrigerant, thermostat issues, or electrical problems. It's hard on components and increases energy use, so it's important to address. A technician can diagnose whether it's a simple fix or a more significant issue.

Question 8

How long do air conditioners last?

Accepted Answer

With proper maintenance, a quality air conditioner in Cyprus typically lasts 12-15 years. Some well-maintained units last 20+ years. Factors affecting lifespan include: usage intensity (Cyprus AC works hard), maintenance frequency, installation quality, brand and build quality, and environmental factors like salt air in coastal areas.

Question 9

Which AC brands are best for Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

We recommend and install: Daikin and Mitsubishi Electric (premium, excellent efficiency and reliability), Gree and Midea (excellent value, proven performance), Fujitsu and Panasonic (quality mid-range options). The 'best' brand depends on your budget, specific requirements, and priorities—we can advise on the right choice for your situation.

Question 10

What size AC do I need?

Accepted Answer

AC sizing depends on room size, ceiling height, sun exposure, insulation, and heat-generating equipment. As a rough guide: small bedroom (9,000-12,000 BTU), living room (18,000-24,000 BTU), large open-plan space (30,000+ BTU). Under-sizing leads to poor cooling and high bills; over-sizing wastes money and can cause humidity issues. We calculate the correct size during our site survey.

Question 11

Should I get inverter or non-inverter AC?

Accepted Answer

In Cyprus, inverter AC is almost always the better choice. Inverter units adjust compressor speed to maintain temperature efficiently, using 30-50% less electricity than non-inverter models. They're quieter, provide more consistent temperature, and last longer. The higher upfront cost is typically recovered within 2-3 years through energy savings.

Question 12

How much does AC installation cost in Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

Costs vary based on system type, brand, and installation complexity. Single split systems start from €550, ducted systems from €1,500. Multi-split systems and complex installations require a site survey for accurate pricing. All prices include equipment, installation, and VAT. We provide free, detailed quotes—no hidden fees.

Question 13

How much does AC repair cost?

Accepted Answer

Repair costs depend on the problem. Simple fixes like cleaning or minor part replacement might be €50-150. Compressor replacement starts from €200. Complete system replacement starts from €500. We always provide a clear quote before starting work.

Question 14

Is it worth repairing my old AC or should I replace it?

Accepted Answer

General guidance: if a repair costs more than 50% of a new unit's price, replacement is usually more economical. If your system is over 12-15 years old and having repeated issues, replacement makes sense. Newer units are significantly more efficient—the energy savings alone can justify replacement. We provide honest advice based on your specific situation.

Question 15

Do you offer emergency AC repair?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we provide 24/7 emergency call-out services across Cyprus. We understand AC failures don't happen at convenient times, especially during summer heatwaves. Our technicians carry common parts and can often resolve issues on the first visit. Maintenance agreement customers receive priority emergency response.

Question 16

Do you cover all of Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we serve all areas of Cyprus including Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia, and Famagusta district. Whether you're in a city centre, coastal resort, or mountain village, we'll come to you. For maintenance agreements and larger commercial projects, we establish efficient service routes for prompt response times.

Question 17

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we offer three tiers of bespoke maintenance agreements—Bronze, Silver, and Gold. All include scheduled servicing, priority scheduling, and 24/7 emergency support. Specific inclusions are customised based on your equipment, property type, and usage. Agreements provide peace of mind and typically save money compared to ad-hoc servicing.

Question 18

Do you install AC in new builds?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We work with developers, builders, and homeowners on new construction projects. Early involvement allows us to design optimal systems, plan concealed pipework during construction, and coordinate with other trades for the best results. We can provide recommendations and quotations at the planning stage.
